The groms had Queens break in Waikiki all to themselves for the T& C Grom contest held in1- to 3-foot surf over Father’s Day weekend. The entire ‘ohana came out to watch the 14-year-old and under groms surf.

Fourteen-year-old Carissa Moore is making a habit of showing up to contests and making surf history lately. In glassy, South Shore surf at her home break of Kewalos, Carissa was cool and competent among more than 60 competitors (and only three other girls) ages 16 and under at Quiksilver’s King of the Groms Hawai‘i qualifier. Showing the boys who’s boss and taking the crown, Moore is the first girl to advance to the world final in the event's three-year history.

Roxy's Carissa Moore wins Quiksilver King of the Groms

 June 8, 2007 - For those of you who have heard the hype about Roxy Surf team phenom, Carissa Moore, you may not be surprised at what we are about to tell you. On Tuesday, June 6th, 14 yr. old Moore became the first girl to win Quiksilver’s “King of the Groms” contest held at Kewalo’s in Hawaii.

The contest is a hot spot for showing off future stars and innovators of the surfing world. It’s a stepping stone for many local youth looking to test the waters of a competitive surfing career. Up-and-coming surfers such as Coco Ho, Kekoa Cazimero, Ezekiel Lau and Lani Hunter honed their skills at past T&C Surf grom events.
