Send off Party Salutes Sport of Surfing |

 Lieutenant Governor Duke Aiona, State Senate Majority Leader Fred Hemmings and guest host emcee Augie T. combined forces on stage for the official Send Off Party honoring the Verizon Wireless Hawaii Junior Surf Team. There was a rollicking live auction for a Dusty Payne Model autographed surfboard that he used to garner 2nd place in this years ASP Triple Crown of Surfing. The bidding was hot and heavy with Augie T. prodding the jam packed audience at the Hard Rock Café. Gary Kewley President of Surf News Network upstaged everyone with a final bid for the board and paddled home that evening with a smile as wide as a whale..And that was just for starters!

There truly is something to be said for doing your homework. If you were going to buy a new car, you’d test drive it first. If you were gonna drive to Town, you’d check the surf report and cams before heading out. But for far too long, we’ve all been dropping the ball and our hard-earned cash by purchasing five, six, and seven-hundred-dollar boards that flat out don’t work for us. Well, the days of selling your dining room furniture for that new Firewire only to have it end up on Craigslist or collecting dust in the garage are over, as 33-year-old Cariel Cohen of LA County may have the solution to the problem: Ride the board first.

Hawaiian Longboard Federation gives free membership |
|
 January 15, 2009 - After a brief hiatus, the Hawaiian Longboard Federation (HLF) regroups to offer membership and ratings points for both longboarders and Stand-Up Paddlers (SUP).
As a third party entity, the HLF will not coordinate events but rather give points based on competitors results from other established contests held in Hawaii and across the nation. Membership: Members of the Hawaiian Longboard Federation typically included top longboard surfers including past and present World Champions, such as Bonga Perkins, Dino Miranda and current Women’s champion Joy Monahan.

Surfrider Foundation announces John Kelly Achievement Awards |

 January 13, 2009 - Honolulu, Oahu -- The Surfrider Foundation Oahu Chapter recently presented the 6 th Annual John Kelly Environmental Achievement Awards to recognize those who have made the greatest contributions towards protecting or enhancing our coastal community and environment.
This year, Shaun Tomson, Dave Rastovich, and Styrophobia were honored. The awards ceremony was held at a special VIP Party at Aloha Tower as a benefit for the Oahu Chapter organized by Heavywater Magazine.

Last Year 22 people showed up!!! Yes, a lot of first timers....and all didn't mind the time and effort it took to do it. Yes, the first timers were nervous, but after the whole process they were actually stoked that they helped out. I was one of them!! To be honest, I didn't want to do it and was totally nervous but after it was all done..... No problem!!

design, similar to Spider’s partnership with past World Title holders

Bryan Hewitson Joins Ocean and Earth |

 OCEAN AND EARTH, COSTA MESA, CA AUGUST 25th, 2008: -- In a recent string of stellar industry personell acquisitions Ocean and Earth has recently hired East Coast professional surfer and sales rep Bryan Hewitson to lead the new team of reps positioned to take O&E to it’s rightful place in the core retail environment.
The restructuring of O&E’s internal sales squad began with legendary sales manager Rob Willis. A former East Coast shop owner himself, Rob transitioned from his store, to Billabong rep, then eventually National Sales Manager for Billabong for more than seven years. After guiding Billabong through it’s U.S. management change-over years Rob moved on to Rusty and eventually Mada as National Sales Manager fine-tuning his skill at brand-building through key retail placement.
