A Resurgent Sunny Garcia Partners with Legendary Shaper Spider Murphy

sunny1.jpgAugust 29, 2008  - World Title and six time Triple Crown winner, Sunny Garcia, has signed with Safari Surf Company, the home of Spider Murphy and Spider Performance Surfboards in Durban, South Africa.

Sunny and Spider met at the Quiksilver Pro at New Pier, Durban earlier this year, and they immediately clicked.  The resulting creative partnership is focused on refining existing performance surfboard design, similar to Spider’s partnership with past World Title holders Shaun Tomson and Martin Potter for their successful campaigns.

The results are coming in, and Sunny is currently on track to regain his place in the WCT for 2009.

“Sunny is very serious about his surfboards.  During both the Quiksilver and Mr. Price Pros in Durban this year, he was in our factory every day working with me on the new designs and giving me immediate feedback.” Said Spider.  “The results are 5 new Sunny Signature models.”

A 20 year veteran of the WCT, Sunny won the World Title in 2000 and has a record six Triple Crown wins.  Since entering the surfing world in 1986, he has consistently ranked in the top 10 in the world.  Known for his mastery of powerful breaks, Sunny is one of the most famous and respected surfers in the business.
