Hawaiian Lifeguard Association Junior Guard Championships Completed |

The Hawaiian Lifeguard Association's annual Junior Guard Championship
went off without a cloud in the sky at Ala Moana Beach Park yesterday
with perfect summer time conditions and several hundred junior
lifesaving watermen and women from Oahu, Kauai, Maui and Hawaii.

Friday, August 1, 2008 - Fredrick Patacchia Jr. (North Shore, Oahu, Hawaii) (pictured) won his
round two heat at the Rip Curl Search Somewhere in Indonesia today.
Patacchia posted a total heat score of 17.73 (out of a possible 20) in
4-6ft (1 metre) surf almost doubling his competitor Brazilian Leonardo
Neves score who only posted a 9.87. Patacchia will return in round
three where he will compete on the next day of competition.
The Rip Curl Pro Search Somewhere in Indonesia is the sixth stop on the
ASP World Tour and includes the world's top 45 full-time touring male
professional surfers plus three wildcards. The event has a ten day
waiting period but requires only four full days of competition to be
completed. Buchan will advance into round three where he will compete
in the next day of competition

July 16, 2008 - Biarritz -- Joy Monahan (Oahu,HAW), 22, became the 2008
Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Women’s World Longboard
Champion today after winning the Roxy Jam event at La Cote des Basques
in Biarritz. Monahan, who defeated runner-up Chelsea Williams (Gold
Coast, AUS) in an exciting 30-minute final, posted a solid 14.10 point
heat tally (out of a possible 20) to secure her first world crown in
front of a cheering crowd.
