Duane Desoto Wins Kicker Audio/Toes On The Nose Longboard Classic, Duke's OceanFest

duanedesotoReigning ASP world champion longboard surfing champion Duane Desoto moved one step closer to clinching a second world title today, taking first place in the Kicker Audio Presents Toes on the Nose Rabbit Kekai Longboard Classic at Waikiki. This event, rated by ASP Hawaii, is one of the feature competitions of the week-long 10th anniversary Duke's OceanFest, honoring legendary Hawaiian waterman Duke Kahanamoku.

The final 32 surfers and draw for the Air Tahiti Nui VonZipper Trials has been decided following the completion of a local ‘pre-trials’ event held today in four-to-six foot waves at Teahupo’o. The pre-trials event was used to decide the remaining eight local Tahitian surfers who will join the seeded surfers in the actual Air Tahiti Nui VonZipper Trials.

Lain Buchanan (NZL) and Nathan Webster (AUS) emerged victorious today, taking out the ASP Grand Masters and ASP Masters titles respectively in clean-but-small surf at Arpoador, Rio de Janeiro for the Supersurf ASP World Masters Championships. Buchanan bested defending ASP Grand Masters Champion and former World Champion Wayne Bartholomew (AUS) in a closely-fought Final to become the first-ever New Zealand title holder.

The Billabong Pro Jeffreys Bay recommenced today with the first six heats of Round 2 taking advantage of an unexpected clean pulse through the iconic pointbreak. Event No. 4 of 11 on the 2011 ASP World Title season, the Billabong Pro Jeffreys Bay plays a crucial role in both the hunt for the 2011 ASP World Title as well as the requalification campaigns of the world’s best surfers before the mid-season rotation. Despite the at-times inconsistent conditions, the ASP Top 34 battled it out in sterling fashion.
