Kelly Slater Wins An Unprecedented Ninth World Title! E-mail
billabong_mundaka_0310e.jpgOctober 3, 2008 - Huntington Beach, Calif. -- Quiksilver congratulates team-rider Kelly Slater (Cocoa Beach, Florida) on winning his ninth world surfing championship today in Mundaka, Spain.  Dominating five of the season’s first eight contests, Slater accrued enough points to clinch the 2008 title with two scheduled Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Tour contests yet to be surfed.

Hiking trails and biking paths are linking up, new camping grounds are opening, and a skateboard park is becoming a reality for West Maui. In the surf, there is a competition for the waves, and on land, there are never enough playing fields.

Mundaka has become a reference in worldwide surfing for its mythical rivermouth left-hander located at the opening of the river of Gernika and the North Atlantic Ocean. Since the inaugural event in 1999, surfing legends from all over the world have come over to surf this mythical wave, renowned for its long and hollow waves.
