November, 28, 2008 - The holding period for The Quiksilver In Memory of Eddie Aikau at Waimea Bay, on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii, officially begins this Sunday, November 30, 2008. The official opening ceremony will be held the following Thursday, December 4, at 3:00 p.m. at Waimea Bay. This year's invited surfers, along with the Aikau Family and special guests, will be on hand to celebrate the 24th anniversary of this unique big-wave riding event.

November 2, 2008 - Imbituba, Brazil -- Bede Durbidge (AUS), 25, claimed his third ASP World Tour career win with a victory at the Hang Loose Santa Catarina Pro in Imbituba, Brazil, today. Durbidge beat France’s Jeremy Flores 17.76 to 9.86.

October 15, 2008 : - - Newport Beach -- Red hot Hawaiian surfer Carissa Moore has claimed top honors in the Heartbreaker division of the Billabong Freewave Challenge Mainland edition.  The 16-year-old phenomenon had both the first- and second-placing waves in the online event, which examined the best surfing performances captured on video on the US Mainland during the summer months ending September 22, 2008.

Altered Dream Tour Format for ASP World Tour in 2009

October 27, 2008 - Coolangatta -- Following one of the most historic board meetings to date, the ASP has introduced the option for a new competition format to be implemented in ASP World Tour events in 2009.

While the traditional 48-man format will still be available, events can elect to implement an altered 48-man format consisting of the following: two opening elimination man-on-man rounds. Round 1 will consist of 32 surfers, those rated 17 – 27 on the ASP World Tour, three Tour/Injury wildcards, the Top 15–rated surfers on the ASP WQS and three event wildcards.

FREESURF: It seemed like you just took off on a roll this year. Granted there was some talk of a rivalry between you and Sally [Fitzgibbons], but it seemed like it was more of a matter of when, not if, you would secure your title this year. Was there a point this year when you felt like, “yeah, I can win a title this year”?

Carissa Moore: I think every woman on tour wants and believes that they can win a world title, otherwise they wouldn’t be competing at this level. Dad and I talked about the title a few times, but never more than using it as motivation. Sally was nipping at my heels the whole year and there was a placement shift halfway through where I was nipping at hers. It was so close that I never really could let my guard down, just had to keep my head focused and take everything one step at a time. When the seconds started counting down in the Steph-Sally semi in France and Steph was ahead, I think that was finally the moment that I let it all go. Read more...

Freesurf: What was your life like before you became a team manager?
Rainos Hayes: Well, I grew up on the North Shore pretty much in the same place that I live now, kind of by Sunset Beach. I was a pro for a while and rode for Quiksilver from about 15 to 25 years old and had a limited amount of success.
