RAONI MONTEIRO CROWNED CHAMPION OF O’NEILL WORLD CUP OF SURFING
Brazil's Raoni Monteiro, 28, became the first South American male in 20 years to win the O'Neill World Cup of Surfing at Sunset Beach, since Fabio Gouveia in 1991. Monteiro is only the second South American male in the 28-year history of the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing to win any event here. His victory today was worth $20,000 and major credibility.

It’s the Heaviest Drop on: Earth, and No One is Free from Feeling the Pressure
Australia's Joel Parkinson (Gold Coast, QLD) made a brilliant return to the pro surfing stage after six months on the sidelines with injury, winning the Reef Hawaiian Pro today to take the lead in the prestigious Vans Triple Crown of Surfing series. Parkinson, 29, is the two-time defending champion of this Hawaiian series that is the final stage of the ASP World Tour. It was an emotional day for the Australian who has experienced the highs and lows of life en-route to today's win: The birth of his son last month, the death of close friend Andy Irons two weeks ago, and debilitating injury that forced him off tour.
For the first time in the history of women's professional surfing, O'Neill is proud to present an ASP World Tour championship event: The $100,000 O'Neill Women's World Cup of Surfing, the second stop for the ladies in the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing. The women's event will run parallel with the long established men's O'Neill World Cup of Surfing.
REEF steps it up to a whole new level at Haleiwa this year, featuring over 100 of the world’s best pro surfers; the 2010 Miss Reef swimsuit final; and the Clash of the Legends that will see surfing greats Mark Occhilupo, Tom Carrol, Tom Curren and Sunny Garcia back in battle at Ali’i Beach.

FREESURF: It seemed like you just took off on a roll this year. Granted there was some talk of a rivalry between you and Sally [Fitzgibbons], but it seemed like it was more of a matter of when, not if, you would secure your title this year. Was there a point this year when you felt like, “yeah, I can win a title this year”?
Carissa Moore: I think every woman on tour wants and believes that they can win a world title, otherwise they wouldn’t be competing at this level. Dad and I talked about the title a few times, but never more than using it as motivation. Sally was nipping at my heels the whole year and there was a placement shift halfway through where I was nipping at hers. It was so close that I never really could let my guard down, just had to keep my head focused and take everything one step at a time. When the seconds started counting down in the Steph-Sally semi in France and Steph was ahead, I think that was finally the moment that I let it all go. Read more...

Freesurf: What was your life like before you became a team manager?
Rainos Hayes: Well, I grew up on the North Shore pretty much in the same place that I live now, kind of by Sunset Beach. I was a pro for a while and rode for Quiksilver from about 15 to 25 years old and had a limited amount of success.
