The Smith Brothers on Cribs

If you’re not up to speed on MTV’s Cribs these days, then you may have missed Kauai’s favorite brotherly trio, Alex, Koa, and Travis Smith, emblazoned on the silver screen

in the latest episode of the hit show.  After opening up their doors to the rest of the world, showing us everything from their indoor pool tables and extensive quivers to their eclectic mix of farm animals in the process, we sat down with Alex Smith to get his take on the family’s celluloid debut.

FSM: So we couldn’t help but notice you and your brothers on MTV the other night on Cribs. What was that all about? You going all Hollywood on us?

Alex Smith: Nah, definitely not. Our agent kinda hooked it up for us last month. It was a pretty cool experience though. I can honestly say that I never thought I would be on Cribs.

FSM: So how long did you have to get your house all squared away before the camera crew came over?

Alex Smith: That’s a pretty classic story. We had about a week to go into full-on cleaning mode. Our house was clean to begin with, but when my mom found out about the show coming to our house, we were scrubbing everything. Like, cleaning the roof…everything. The place was immaculate.

FSM: So what was it like having a full-on camera crew in your house?

Alex Smith: It was pretty cool. The guys were really mellow. They didn’t really have us stage anything; they just let us say whatever we wanted. It was all pretty unscripted.

FSM: Did you have a whole crew over at your house when the show came on?

Alex Smith: Yeah, I had some friends over just cruising, but we didn’t really know exactly when the show was coming on. Then somebody called us and said that it was on MTV right now. It was cool watching it. Like I said, I never thought I would be on Cribs.

FSM: So is that it for the Smith Brothers on MTV for now?

Alex Smith: [laughs] For now, yeah, no more MTV in the plans, but you never know. Maybe when we all get out own houses.
