Event: HSP PRESENTS THE STEINLAGER SHAKA LONGBOARD SERIES
Date: May 19-20, 2007
Location: Flies, O‘ahu
Conditions: Consistent 2- to 3-foot surf
The first south swell of the year showed up in time for some
high-performance action as Duane DeSoto rode his way to victory at the
Steinalger Shaka Longboard series at "Flies" surf break at the Kaka‘ako
Waterfront Park in Honolulu.
Consistent 2- to 3-foot surf made for classic noseriding and cutbacks. Desoto, who now resides in Honolulu, made the most of the surf for a final total of 15 points over a solid field of competitors.
Rounding out the four-man final was Ned Snow placing second, Kapono Nahina from Wahiawa in third and Geoff Wong from Honolulu, in fourth.
In the C4 Waterman stand-up paddle division it was a reunion of finalists from the Sunset Beach event as Leleo Kinimaka took top honors followed by Brian Keaulana, Dave Parmenter and Nolan Keaulana respectively. For Kinimaka, from Kailua-Kona, his victory is solidifying as the paddle-maker waterman and one of the top surfers in Hawai‘i.
